Hello there...

I came home from work today to my mother in a panic. Somehow she's managed to infect her desktop and her laptop with a computer virus. Focusing on the laptop for now, here's the information I can provide.

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Symptoms: Internet Explorer windows randomly open to various advertising sites. Attempting to Google for terms like "Spybot Search and Destroy" returns valid search results, but clicking on links redirects to a different site than the site requested.

Steps already taken:

* Looked through active process list and Googled (on a (hopefully) uninfected computer) any suspicious looking processes.
* Scanned the system with a Windows Defender quick scan.
* Scanned the system with a MalWare Bytes quick scan.

None of the above yielded any results. I'm currently running a full system scan from MalWare Bytes, but I'm not hopeful that it will find the culprit.

Please help.
