Using a Dell Latitude E6400, running XP. Using Norton 360 for firewall and antivirus. Primarily use Firefox 3.5.15 (Had upgraded to the latest version and had some functionality problems to reverted back).

Last Tuesday morning, my laptop has a message from Norton saying it had quarantined the Zefarch Trojan, there was a file in the windows directory, a regestry entry and the browser cache. It also found Trojan.Gen 2 in a file and browser cache.

Norton quarantined these. After rebooting, I'll get a message that my computer can't find the program listed in the registry (Windows\unubovidog.dll) which is one of the files that Norton quarantined/removed.

Since this clearly got past Norton's firewall, I was not satisfied so I ran Malwarebytes 1.5. It said it found Torjan.Hiloti in system volume information\_restore (3 instances of it).

Even less confident, I ran a complete scan with Norton 360 and surprisingly it found the following: Multiple instances of Trojan.Gen.2, Downloader, Trojan-Mijapt, Trojan.Gen - inside of doc-setting ....app data\sun\java\deployment\cache\6.0\1\....

Also

- Trojan.Gen - in a file under my doc-settings ID and in the browswer cache

These were quarantined and I have since cleared the Java Cache

I've re-run complete Norton scans and Malwarebytes scans and come up clearn. I've done online scans with ESET and Trendmicro House Call and also come up clean.

Symptoms:

I'm getting website redirects using Google search in Firefox. For example in a google search I type in 'travel sites'. I get a list and right click on a known site and select open in a new tab. In this case I selected www.kayak.com and the actual link google provides on the top line is:

http://google.ad.sgdoubleclick.net/pagead/nclk?sa=L&ai=1&fadurl=googleads.g.doubleclick.net&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kayak.com%2F&aclck=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch-tools.org%2Findex.php%3Fsearch%3Dtravel%2Bsites

but instead I wind up at:

http://shopcompareus.com/ac/search.php?phrase=Travel+Sites&uid=84ffebc8022c4dfec39f6d54f04cbadc&kuid=58a7fa376805a20cb18246950b39168c&src=miva

Further I went to IE and did the same google search. The results came up in the same order but the underlying link for the site was http://www.kayak.com/

Other Actions Completed:
- Ran TDSSKiller.xex and it did not find anything
- Cleared Java, ID, Firefox and Windows Cache

============= FINISH: 10:38:07.68 ===============

Note the GMER ran for several hours, when I cam back to my computer I had a window write error to a temp file. The GMER application did not have any messages, but my wireless card no longer worked and I had to reboot, so I'm not sure if they had anything to do with the GMER app running for so long, but I've posted the file it produced.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. Please also continue to work with me until I give you the all clear. Even if your computer appears to act better, you may still be infected.

Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem.

Once we start working together, please reply back within 3 days or this thread may be closed so we can help others who are waiting.

We need to create an OTL report,
  • Please download OTL from this link.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

    netsvcs
    msconfig
    drivers32 /all
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\system32\*.sys /90
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\system32\Spool\prtprocs\w32x86\*.dll
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Quick Scan button.
  • The scan should take a few minutes.
  • Please copy and paste both logs in your reply.

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new OTL log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

In your reply, please post both OTL logs and the GMER log.

If I don't respond within 2 days, please feel free to PM me.
Please don't ask for help via PM. The forums are there for a reason. Please post in the forums so others may benefit as well.
