A bit of history: computer, Dell Inspiron laptop, was brought to me with black screen on attempted bootup. After a system restore from F8 boot menu, all seemed well, but owner then reported redirecting links (I hadn't checked for that). So I ran Spybot S&D, cleaned many items. Ran AdAware, cleaned many more, but then the browsers wouldn't launch at all. Another system restore brought them back. Existing McAffee program reported zero problems. Deleted that and installed AVG free. All systems showed ok. Microsoft Defender shows no problems. Then ran Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, it found lots of problems and reported fixed, but still the redirect problem exists. One other oddity, the Boot Manager started showing up at boot, with options for Windows Setup and Windows 7, defaulting to 3 seconds for Setup. I did change that to default to Win7, 0 seconds. After that, it would blink briefly on booting into Win7. AFAIK, nobody had changed anything configuring the Boot Manager.
I did download and run rkill.exe and rkill.com to see what processes might show up, but it reports 0 processes. With AVG realtime scanning disabled, warnings purported to be from AVG popped up during this process, however.
Any help will definitely be appreciated.
