I prevously had AOL for my internet access but recently switched to a high speed cable connection. I have never had a problem with SpyWare or viruses and run my security programs regularly. Recently the AOL spyware scanner that runs automatically even though I discontinued AOL came up with a hit for GUARDIAN MONITOR, which it describes as a keylogger with a severe security risk. I have tried running Spybot, SpyFerret, and MicroSoft Spyware (beta) and none of them come up with the same hit. I use the AOL spyware program to block and delete the Guardian Monitor and then immediately run the program again and it shows Guaradian Montior as still present. Can anyone review my hijack this log and tell me if I really have this SpyWare running on my system and, if so how to get rid of it?

I even tried to remove Guardian Monitor manually using instructions I found on the internet but none of the files it says to look for are there. This is a very recent problem and I have not installed anything or downloaded anything recently. It just happened all of a sudden. Thanks for any assistance!

Hi and  to BleepingComputer!

My name is David Posted Image

Firstly go to add/remove and uninstall SpyFerret. It's BAD!

Also, can you see is Guardian Monitor is in add/remove, if so uninstall it!

After trying both of those things, reboot and post a new HJT log and we can try and root it out if it's still there! :flowers:

David

SpyFerret is gone and Guardian Monitor does not show in the list of add/remove. Following is the new HiJack This log. If it's not a bother, why is SpyFerret bad? I actually saw decent reviews for it as a Spyware detector. It always detected Anorum but I never subscribed so never eliminated it. The description of the SpyWare didn't look bad at all so I left it. Thanks again!

SpyFerret - Have look here and scroll down to SpyFerret:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Download WinPFind!
  • Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.
  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
  • When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer.
  • Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed.
  • Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.
David

Here's the WinPFind log ...

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Thanks again for everything. I suspect that Guardian Monitor is not running but the AOL SpyWare Protector continues to find it each and every time. It also says that it successfully blocks and deltes it but I run it again immediately afterwards and GUardian Monitor appears again. None of the other SpyWare detectors seem to find it.

Hmmm, i use AOL and i removed AOL spyware protection as it's crap in my view! The WinPfind log doesn't look bad at all - it's clean. I think that you once had it and it's now gone - but the AOL protection is still finding it.

Go to C:\Program Files\ and see if you can find a folder with Guardian Monitor or something similar - if so delete it!

Apart from that everything is clean!

How do you feel about it>
