I have been infected with numerous malware in these few weeks itself. The first to come was SpySheriff but after following the instructions, i managed to get rid of it BUT at the cost of my desktop turning into something ancient. It no longer have the vibrant colour that it used to be and i wonder why. But that's not the main problem. Two days ago, i was strucked by virus and malware again. This time, Ewido detected 66 spyware/malware in my pc and Norton detected 4 virus/trojan in my pc. I tried to ask help earlier but i see no one is free yet to help, SO i tried to clean it myself. After all the bleeps, i managed to get my pc running again but it's so freaking annoying now.

That malware infection turned off my Norton auto protection and i can't turn it on again. Said about somethign i need to get an online scan. So i went BUT imagine my agony when it said that only Explorer 5.5 or higher can access it. I checked my version and it's written clearly that i am using the version 6.0 but how come the website can't detect it? But i downloaded and installed the version 6.0 as well but the other website still can't detect it. can someone please tell me what should i do now?

Please do let me know if you need any HJT log or what ever .. Below are my questions again.

1. How can i return my desktop to its vibrant colour again? The themes are lost.
2. How can i enable my Norton to auto-protect again?
3. How i can fix my explorer SO that it will not pretend to be a version 5.5 and below again?
4. Any way i can return my computer to a normal state?

Thanks a lot for your help. Really appreciate it a lot

Some of the mal-ware affects files needed for Windows to operate properly. Oftentimes the fix is to delete the bad file - and then you're left with missing Windows files. Lot's of fixes are available, but let's start with some scans (do at least 2 or 3 of them):

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ - *For Internet Explorer*
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/h...call_launch.php - *For Firefox*

Trojan scans:

Then immediately turn on your anti-virus and other protection softwares, update them and perform scans.

While you're doing this, also visit Windows Update and get your system updated!

Then - post another HJT log in the HJT forums and wait for a reply. Don't try and fix anything else, as the changes made by these programs will affect the analysis of your HJT log.

Finally, don't ever, ever click on an unwanted box that pops up on your screen. Use Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task Manager and end the entire application that it's in (i.e. Internet Explorer).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
