In the process of the last week, I have seen 2 different alerts.
1. A program supposedly called "antivirus action - innovative protection for your pc"
2. Microsoft Security Essentials AlertAttached File  Attach.txt   11.11KB   2 downloads

I have tried to run a few apps like Combofix, Gmer, rkill, MBAM, ad-aware, and keep getting reinfected after I connect to the internet. I have at this point what I thing is a clean system and want to see if anyone can determine if I have missed anything before I get reinfected all over again. I have not reconnected since my last clean sweep.

I have WinXP Pro sp3

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Right now I am not able to boot Windows normally, I must use safe mode. When I let it boot normally, it gets stuck after desktop background appears. I never get icons or start bar. I tried multiple users.

I am now up in safe mode: I tried to run DDS and it halted after some time. I stopped a few iexplore.exe (I didn’t open IE) processes from running and was then able to run it. Log below and “attach.txt“attached. I see, as you will, a number of bad entries in the log. I have manually deleted them previous to this post, but they are back. I have not reconnected to the internet since my initial post for fear of getting further infected. I imagine if I reconnect I will again get the 2 fake Av popups as described in my original post - 1. A program supposedly called "antivirus action - innovative protection for your pc" and 2. “Microsoft Security Essentials Alert”

Here is the DDS log -

The forum is busy and we need to have replies as soon as possible. If I haven't had a reply after 3 days I will bump the topic and if you do not reply by the following day after that then I will close the topic.

----------------------------------------------

Okay, you're quite infected there.

Without a normal boot we need to make use of either safe mode or another method of accessing the system.

For now, in Safe Mode please download Combofix on a clean PC and transfer it to the infected PC via flashdrive or other removable media

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop making sure you rename it comfix.exe
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)
  • Double click on Comfix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Okay, again in safe mode please follow these instructions for rerunning Combofix

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the box below into it:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\vcnlpaue.sys
c:\program files\internet explorer\iexploremgr.exe
C:\yprpjraf.exe
c:\windows\system32\d3dx10_43N.dll
c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\yprpjraf.exe

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"

Driver::
cerc6
vcnlpaue
lbqzm
rbnueyyn
uutauiu

RegLock::
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-57989841-436374069-1801674531-500\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\User Preferences]

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as Comfix.exe (called ComboFix.exe in the below graphic)

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

If the program requests for you to update Combofix then click Yes.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Please rerun Combofix in Nomal Mode with a new script, below

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the box below into it:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic364284.html/page__p__2039601__fromsearch__1#entry2039601

Collect::
c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\yprpjraf.exe
C:\yprpjraf.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as Comfix.exe (called ComboFix.exe in the below graphic)

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

If the program requests for you to update Combofix then click Yes.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Still cant get desktop icons and start menu in regular boot mode.
Booted to safe mode and ran script as instructed.

It is running now. Should it take more than 1 hr?

So did you get it running in Normal Mode? You said "disregard last message" but was that aimed at the fact that it wasn't running or that you couldn't access normal mode?

It is probable that running Combofix in safe mode won't remove this rootkit so post the log but try and use the following to run Combofix in normal mode from a command prompt.

Run ComboFix using these instructions:

Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste the following bolded text into the run box & click OK.

"%userprofile%\desktop\comfix.exe" /killall

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

This needs to be run in Normal Mode.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the box below into it:

File::
c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\yprpjraf.exe
C:\yprpjraf.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as Comfix.exe (called ComboFix.exe in the below graphic)

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

If the program requests for you to update Combofix then click Yes.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

If normal mode is not possible then let me know. :)

Hi,

I have not had a reply from you for 5 days. Can you please tell me if you still need help with your computer as I am unable to help other members with their problems while I have your topic still open. The time taken between posts can also change the situation with your PC making it more difficult to help you.

If you like you can PM me.

Thanks,

m0le
