Recently both Firefox and IE were held hostage by a redirect to all kinds of weird sites when performing a search. I also noticed that "Whitesmoke translator" was installed on my machine. I am the only user and I did not install this. Figured I picked up a virus/malware of some sort. Cleaned with avast AV, but no help. Proceeded to install/run pc tools Spybot search and destroy. Did not help. Installed/ran ad-aware. After reboot, all 32 bit applications do not launch. 64 bit programs work, IE-64, Directory Opus, Photoshop 64, but ZERO 32 bit applications work. I cannot install/uninstall. Any suggestions?

Do you get any error messages? Can you post any logs from the scans?

No error messages. Mouse pointer spins for a few seconds like they start and nothing happens.

I am not able to open any of the software now to access their logs. If they were saved on my computer I'd be happy to post them but I do not know where to look....

performed sfc /scannow and it stated "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations."

Found an ad-aware log from yesterday when it removed 14 infections.....the reboot after this "repair" is when 32 bit apps no longer would launch. Thanks for any ideas you might have. -Dave

Try this fix: When you run an .exe file on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer, the file may start a different program?

If that doesn't work try this: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/

I am sorry for pointing you to the wrong executable fixes. The other links should be more relevant to your issue at hand. Please post back if you have tried them.

Thanks
