Hi, I sometimes download videos from Youtube. I did this a day or two ago. I wanted to download another one today and found that both my CD Driver E, and DVD driver D have disappeared,. Now in its place are drives F and G which don't exist. If I insert a disc into the writer nothing happens and nothing registers. Can someone help me find them again ? thanks a million.

Reboot your computer. It may show up as found new hardware when it boots back up.

Check your Device Manger window to see if your DVD drive is detected or not.

You can also do as Trezax suggested and look in Device Manager. If it is there, RIGHT click on the device name, then UNINSTALL.
Do this before you try a simple reboot.

Then reboot your computer. As mentioned in my previous post, it may be seen as new hardware.

If you don't see it in Device Manager, reboot and see what happens.

If I insert a disc into the writer nothing happens and nothing registers

If you click on 'Computer', can you see which drive is showing the DVD/CD?

You should right click on those items with the yellow exclamation mark and clic uninstall. Then reboot. If the problem persist, try to install the latest chipset driver for your motherboard (available on the manufacturer website), you can find your motherboard model with cpu-z if you don't know it. Intel also have a usefull autodetect page to help you install the latest driver if you have an intel one.
