I'm investigating hardware for a new computer. It is going to be running Windows 2008 Server and it will be used to do software development with Microsoft Visual Studios 2008 & SQL Server. I will also be leaving this computer on 24/7 for FTP access.

I'm trying to figure out if I should buy server hardware or desktop hardware. What would be the advantage of going with server hardware in my situation.? If I run an Intel i7 based desktop, shouldn't that me more than efficient for my situation?
