I'm pretty sure my graphics card has crapped out on me but wanted to be sure before I went out and bought a new one. First had problems two days ago my computer would automatically go to sleep and not wake up even though my settings are set to never sleep; I would have to manually restart, after the second time that happened when I rebooted the green dots (shown in the picture) start at boot up, also during boot there are red wavy lines_-_-_-_-_-_ and thicker blue vertical lines. Computer will now only run at a resolution of 800* 600 in 4bit color mode. Cant change it in the advanced settings either. Any help, guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi :welcome: To BleepingComputer!

Go to your video cards manufactuers web site and see if you can download the driver for you video card then, Go to device manager and find where your graphics card is listed and right click and hit uninstall then restart your computer and install the driver that you downloaded from the video cards manufacturers web site. If you still have issues then you most likely need a new video card.

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
1 TB harddrive
10GB harddrive for operating system and backup
My current crapped out graphics card is a nvidia geforce 8600 GT
It goes in a PCi Express x16 card connector

and 3* PCI card connector slots

I need to be able to both play games ( Call Of Duty, World of Warcraft, Starcraft ect) and use programs like Photoshop and Daz3d

On second thought I would like you to make a new topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum139.html in our system building and upgrading forum with your specs and what you would like in a new video card. Also post a link back to this topic. This way you will be getting advice from members that can recommend a good card far better than I can. :)
