Hi,
I'm unable to go to certain websites such as gmail.com, hotmail.com, etc. unless I start my computer in Safe Mode. I have run Ad-Aware as well as McAfee Stinger. This problem has been going on for several months. My operating system is Windows XP and I have both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The problem occurs with both. Here is the HJT log:

Hi themetamorphasis and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

First Question,do you have any active Antivirus Software running on this PC?

Have you used the AOL Security Center before and of so,what exactly did you use?

I dont see much from the HijackThis log so lets look a bit deeper!

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab

Make Sure "Normal Startup-load all device drivers and services" has a green tick by it

Click Apply->Close->Follow the Prompts to Restart

Restart Normal and Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the results of WinPFind and Blacklight.

Cretemonster,
Thanks for your help.
I run Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Personal Firewall. I don't remember ever having used AOL Security Center before. Though I think I followed your instructions regarding Blacklight correctly, I didn't see a "scan through Windows Explorer" box anywhere. No hidden files were found. Here is the Blacklight log:

12/04/05 18:00:49 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.25 initialized
12/04/05 18:00:49 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2)
12/04/05 18:00:49 [Note]: 4019 4
12/04/05 18:00:49 [Note]: 4005 0
12/04/05 18:00:52 [Note]: 4006 0
12/04/05 18:00:52 [Note]: 4011 3592
12/04/05 18:00:53 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1013
12/04/05 18:03:03 [Note]: 4007 0

And here is a fresh HJT log:

Allright,I need to see a HijackThis Uninstall log.

Open HijackThis-> Click the tab labeled "Open Misc Tools Setion"-> Scroll down to "Open Uninstall Manager"

Now,Click "Refresh List"-> "Save List"-> Save it to the desktop for easy access.

Copy the contents of that Uninstall list to the next reply.

The problem seems to be gone!!! I'm not sure what you told me to do that fixed the problem, but I'm now able to access all websites without having to start in safe mode. Thanks so much!!!

OK,before we go much further,I need to let you know,I will ask that you part ways with Kazza as its an absolute crap magnet and brings nothing but trash to a PC.
