A quick look at Microsoft Support shows that you may want to uninstall IE* and reinstall it.

I know I have had issues with IE7 and IE8 in general after a repair install, rolling back to IE 6 and then reinstalling usually fixes it.

How to Uninstall IE 8

If you right click My Computer, select Manage and then use the Event Viewer are there any errors in Applications , System or Internet?
