Hello,
I have recently run into a problem on my work laptop where the Just In Time Script Debugger would popup repeatedly. I could leave it in the background and continue to work. The problem has now progressed to where upon startup, the ccapp.exe and vptray.exe are together using 100% of the CPU and the system is not usable.
This is a Dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP SP3. Symantec Antivrus 10.1.5.500 is running with Virus Def 11/19/2010 rev2.
I am able to start the system in SafeMode w/ Networking and have run a full symantec scan finding several Trojans, which it reported to have successfully quarantined. I also ran MalwareBytes quick scan which has identified several issues that I selected for removal.
What MalwareBytes had previously reported in the last few days:
Registry Keys Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\6to4 (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GoogleUpdateBeta (Backdoor.IRCBot) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\setup.exe (Trojan.Downloader) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\hfakileyocozofuq (Trojan.Hiloti) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\{4fa3e757-dafc-b390-1862-84a90bce0015} (Spyware.Passwords.XGen) -> Delete on reboot.
Neither Symantec Antivirus nor Malwarebytes now report issues now when executed in SafeMode with Networking. I am unable to execute these scans when Booted normally. The system is still unusable with ccapp.exe and vptray.exe are together using 100% of the CPU.
I have run DDS and GMER and attached the logs from both scans. Both these scans were executed while booted in SafeMode with Networking.
GMER reports a possible RootKit
Thanks for your help.
Quentin

I completed the steps documented in the post:
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=68095&st=0&p=347833&#entry34783

This included running TDSSKiller and Combofix.
This has appeared to remove the Rootkit and the system is now operational.
