I'm not sure if this is the right section but I've been having a serious issue with my pc and I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight into this issue.
I guess to begin I have 64 bit vista professional, I only shut down or restart my computer about once every two weeks or if absolutely necessary so its a bit hard to tell when certain things start or what programs I have installed since last restart. My problems started with this error every time I restarted MSLN NOT FOUND SKIPPING AUTOCHECK it slowed down my start up a bit but it didn't make difference once the computer started up so I ignored it and this has been going on for a month or two I believe. I restarted about two days ago because while trying to access my E: drive my explorer froze. Since then every time I start up it takes over an hour to start up. It does a check disk every time and it also gives me 4 File Record Segment XXX is Unreachable errors. The next time I started it up it my explorer froze up once i tried opening a file on my E: drive. I could just close explorer and navigate around my comp anyway using run command, but the last time I restarted my explorer instantly froze and froze up all my other programs right after I ran a game. This time my programs didn't start up, only kaspersky and aim started up. sorry this description is vague, I really don't know what i'm supposed to include here. If theres any other information you need just ask. On a side note I would prefer not to reformat my computer but I don't mind too much if I have too. The only thing I would like to save is my 90gb ebooks folder off my E: drive.

I would try booting a CD that allows you to run chkdsk on the hard drives. Perhaps your Windows Install Disc or OEM restore discs. Also try turning off all anti-virus and malware shield type programs and run a scan with malwarebytes anti-malware. See if it cleans up.

Sounds like you have some file system problems. Do you have a UPS? Do you ever have quick power glitches like 1/4 second brown out? It's easy to scramble the OS these days if you don't have battery backup that at least can handle the power being out for a minute or two so you can shut down.

First thing is to run chkdsk /f on your system disk from a booted CD.
Then tell what happened.
