I'm not 100% certain what the problem is, but when using the google toolbar in firefox (v 3.6.12) it brings up a list of results but then clicking on any link will bring me to another, totally, random site. Like yellowpages.com when I should have gotten a yahoo page. It is also taking longer then normal to load pages in new tabs. It doesn't seem to have the redirecting problem when using google.com, only when searching with the toolbar. It's been going on for about a week while I have run a few different anti-virus programs without luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Quick note: This is a work computer so I will not have access to it starting Nov 25 ending Nov 29th so if you post and I don't respond that's why; I was hoping to get this taken care of before then but I totally understand everyone's busy)

Hello kmjen ,

Posted Image

Do you have an IT department? If so, they should really handle this for several reasons. :) Let me know.

Haha, IT Dept... that's funny. That would make things easier but alas no, there is no IT department. I told my manager (whos also good friend) that tehre was a virus and his response, verbatim, was "That sucks, good luck" so any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi there,

Okay then. :) But I had to ask.....if you had one I didn't want to go against any company policies that might be in place, etc.....

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to kmjen.exe and try again.

Now you said in your first post you had run several AntiVirus programs, but there is none present on this system. We'll need to get one going as soon as we can. Until then, stay offline as much as possible, and ComboFix will take you offline for its run, then put you back on to reply. :thumbup2:

Thanks,
tea

Hi Tea,

How long does ComboFix take to run on average? I need to be online for my POS system to work properly (charging CC and the like). I'm a serial uninstaller truthfully, so I uninstall programs once I'm done with them. You are correct that there is no anti-virus on this computer atm. It was having issues and got uninstalled (not by me!) and I've been trying to get my company to send me disk to get it back up and running but as you can imagine computer related things are a bit disorganized here. Thanks!

It *should* take less than 20 minutes....and that's really max time.

Ok,

Ran combofix and followed the prompts. After it scanned it said it was deleting C:windows/D then said windows needed to be shut down and there was an error. I unfortunately, like an idiot, didn't write it down. It was something about a plug and play driver. But if it was the first time I had seen the screen to just restart the computer. So I've restarted but now I don't know if a log file was created, and if it was where it would be and I still have the problem. Should I run combo fix again?

Look for it in C:\ComboFix.txt

Are you connected to any other computers?

I am not connected to any other computers. I do not see a combofix.txt in the C drive. What si there now that I do not remember seeing before is a file folder called Qoobox, a ComboFix Folder (but not your regular file folder, just folder) Boot.bak and a file that's just .rnd

Qoobox is part of ComboFix, so no worries. :thumbup2: Run it again and see if you can get a log this time.....do you use a router?

Hrm... I'm connected directly (via cable) to the weird Verizon modem/wireless router thing they give customers. I unfortunately can't run combofix again right now, it was running for at least 15-20 min before and I can't have my system down that long during the day. I will try to run it again before I leave for the night.

Okay....post when you're ready and we'll go from there. I did read your initial post, so if I don't hear back from you just let me know when you're back and we'll resume. :thumbup2:
