Hi there and welcome to Bleeping Computer !

As you may have noticed already, the forums are very busy at the moment and i have noticed your log has gone unanswered so far!

We look at the oldest logs first, and we were wondering that if you still need help, please start by posting a new HijackThis log in this topic and i will then be able to take a look!

Thanks very much :flowers:

David

Here is a new logfile, i have noticed that cpu % is almost always at 100 in the task manager and that explorer.exe is unusually high compared to a few months ago and compared to other computers.

Clean Log!! Posted Image

I've always removed ultimatebuddy, but theoretically it's not too bad; and i reckon it's safe to re-install it!

How's everything running?

Thanks,
You said theoretically Ultimatebuddy isnt too bad, just wondering what is bad about it? If there is a reason i shouldnt use it, its not killin me not to. It is running better, although i still have some freezing problems with IE. I find it freezing at times it shouldnt (nothing else open other than one IE window and an aim window and it slows down to the point where all I can do is turn it off, cntrl-alt-deleting doesnt work because it is running so slow). Any idea what can be done about this?

I just checkout the ultimatebuddy website - i reverse my original statement that it "wasn't too bad". I have it in relation to other "buddy" programs like bonzaibuddy, which is spyware. You can safely reinstall it!

Please go here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

and run the internet fix ultility.

 Download CleanUp!
  • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
  • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
  • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
  • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
  • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
  • Click OK
  • Click on the "Cleanup" button and let it run.
  • Once its done, close the program.
Download WinPFind!
  • Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.
  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
  • When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer.
  • Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed.
  • Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.
Please post back with the Winpfind log and let me know of any improvements so far.

I did the first two steps but was unable to do the third. When i try to run the WinPFind program it opens, but has a file not found error. Then when i try to hit start scan it access violation at address 0044DE27 in module 'winpfind.exe'. Read of address 00000004. Any idea what i should do?

Ok, Download Silent Runners.zip and extract it to a new folder on your Desktop.
  • Run the Silent Runners.vbs file.
  • You will receive a prompt: "Do you want to skip supplementary searches?" - click "NO."
  • If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow Silent Runners.vbs to run.
  • This script is not malicious so please allow it.
  • A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run. (It won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file, and copy & paste it in your next reply.

Its a Presario R3000Z (laptop)

3000+ AMD 64
1.25 Gigs Ram
5400 rpm HD
64 MB Nvidia Video Card

All else norm as per the laptop. Only addition after purchase is more ram, but it ran stable for a while after that, and the ram is the correct type, so i dont see that as being a problem.

I really don't know what to suggest. Have you installed any hardware recently that may have caused this? When did the problems start?

David
