So I have recently purchased an Airlink Wireless N USB Adapter based on past reviews from Amazon and my own personal experience with using it on a linux box some time back. Problem is that whenever I have plugged it in to any usb port via an extender or even directly (tried about 5 usb ports) the connection is just crap. In the notification icon under Win 7 it shows full bars but the speed is not there. Last time I checked I would get about 8mbps down and about 2-3mbps up, not fast by any means but for me it was perfect. Now I am getting 1mbps down and 2mbps up (upload is around the same) and I have no idea why. I RMA'd this adapter 3 times so far and they all give me the same trouble. I think it can't be my router because my phone speed test and my laptop speed test (wireless n for laptop and I think wireless g is on the droid 2) are operating at very respective speeds, my phone is faster than my wireless n adapter at the moment, on 3G not wifi.

For a bit I connected my desktop to my laptop via ICS and the speed went up so I do not know what is wrong.

What could be causing the problem?

Note: I did not install drivers for it as Win 7 automatically found it and installed everything, I reformatted (unrelated) the computer and there are no phones or any other interferring frequencies that I can tell.

Did the adapter come with any drivers? If it did I suggest you install those.
