Recovering data from infected thumbdrive

all files in my thumbdrives has become shortcut folders. i need all the files. can it be fixed? how to get rid of the virus and in the same time, recover all the files. if i connect the thumbdrive into my pc again, i m worried if this problem will infect my pc as well. i dont know what to do.please help me. thanx.
