Userinit.exe Missing I Cant Login Please Help

Hi there

If anybody can help me in removing a nasty selection of trojans etc from laptop running winxp home The userinit.exe file was removed now as a result i can login to the machine can anybody suggest what i can do.?

First let me say Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

If in fact your Userinit.exe is missing from your system 32 folder. You can try this:

Copy that file from:

C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\userinit.exe

to:

C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe

Hope this helps.

How do i get access to these files? the machine stops at the user logins every time. I can't seem to get into set up?

Sorry for the delay in replying. Are you able to start in the safe mode or do you know how to get in safe mode? If not I'll add a link here. How to start in safe mode. Hopefully starting in safe mode will allow you to find the file mentioned in the previous post.
