I was infected for the 3rd time this year. This time I am completely stopped in my tracks. system not usable. I received the virus while downloading a program for viewing files. I should have known better.

When I log on to the system I receive a message that "Microsoft Security Essentials" is running. I get a message that "trojan.horse.win32.pav.64.a" was found. Then "THINK PAD" starts. My desktop icons and the start button does not appear.

I tried to start in safe mode (I keep malwarebytes up-to-date) and was hoping to run the program in safe mode. I was able to enter safe mode but received the same results as logging on in regular mode.

I am not able to run any reports or diagnostics. In fact I am entering this log at work.

My PC is running Microsoft XP. I beleive I have service pac 3. I have IE8 installed but I use FireFox as my main browser. My Antivirus software is AVG wich I purchased after my last battle with a virus. My firewall is provided by my cable providor - Time Warner.
