Hello there!

Around two weeks ago Security Tool installed itself onto my laptop and caused a huge mess ending with the laptop not starting up correctly (all within about 2 minutes). As usual whenever I have a problem with my computer I straight away phoned my brother who knows a bit about computers, but he didn't know how to sort this kind of infection so gave me some general tips and by following his advice I was able to find the Security Tool .exe file and delete it which stopped it running on startup. This allowed me to start my laptop again fine, until all the other problems started such as:
- a continual error saying that "host process for windows services stopped working and was closed" pops up whenever the laptop is on
- a warning from avast! that a malicious url (from svchost?) was detected (this doesn't matter which site I'm on or even if the internet is on, but has only started occurring since I updated from an older version of Avast!)
- Firefox stopped opening completely at one point, it always said that the program wasn't found, I managed to get around this by renaming Firefox to ff, and this also seems to have fixed another problem of getting continual pop-ups while I'm online

Eventually I found this site and it seems you are the miracle I've been looking for!

I've ran Avast! scans, Avira AntiVir scans, and Spybot scans and although they continuously find things, they never seem to be able to completely remove the problems permanently.

These problems don't seem like much when they are written down but as I'm in my final year of university my laptop is hugely important to me, and I'm worried that if it isn't sorted soon the security hole that Security Tool created might let in something even more malicious.

Any help that can be given would be brilliant!

Thanks in advance,

Cooper_K

P.S. I ran Hijackthis and here's the log it produced if this helps:

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

DeFogger:

  • Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    Posted Image
Download DDS and save it to your desktop

    Link1
    Link2
    Link3

Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Thanks for the reply Gringo!

I managed to run everything fine without any problems (although vista has started asking me for confirmation using the user account control every time I try to run anything, which it never used to do).

Here are the logs you asked for:

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

I ran combofix (after closing all antivirus software using the advice in your links) but it still said that Avast! was running, I knew none of the scanners were running so I clicked the "ok" button, it then said the same again so I clicked the close button. Combofix started working fine and got part way through and said that it needed to restart the computer, to which I clicked the "ok" button. However, when it restarted it got as far as the vista loading screen and blue screened and restarted. It did the same thing several times so eventually I told it to start in safe mode, where it managed to complete the scan and produce the log file.

The computer still won't start up in normal mode though, and still gives the same blue screen error (which restarts the computer so fast that I don't have time to read what the error is). It will start up in safe mode though.

Here is the log file it produced:

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

File::
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ugehegucobojeb.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ekosiqaquz.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\urilusef.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ofabulamuf.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ahudihos.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ozuteboy.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\ewamikagoxutuxu.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\elobuhuwonez.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\osotijih.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\etisapamot.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\uxilixibugojud.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\asucizep.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\Akimikere.bin
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\uyivoqubub.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\uyavemomixefenoy.dll
c:\users\Kay\AppData\Local\uzudamumokekegas.dll
c:\windows\system32\lnixk.exe
c:\windows\TEMP\96C3.tmp

Driver::
aswSP
aswFsBlk
lnixk

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?

Ran the custom script, it seemed to delete the stuff mentioned in your script, then it came up saying something which I only got chance to read the last bit of (about not manually restarting the computer) but it doesn't seem to have produced a report for me to post, it certainly isn't on the desktop and doesn't seem to be in C: either, though there are a couple of .txt files called "-20071027" and "aaw7boot".

The laptop still isn't getting past the vista welcoming page on the ordinary start-up, so I'm still having to run things from safe mode.

Forgot to mention in my earlier post, as soon as combofix had seemingly finished the custom script the laptop restarted, could it have not finished and therefore not produced the report?

Hello

in safe mode did you try Last Known config that worked

Hello

to get into safe mode you have to choose safe mode from a menu

one is safe mode and another is safe mode with networking

there should be another that says last known config that worked - I want you to try this

there should be another that says repair you computer - let me know if it has this option
