So, my buddy "sent" me a link through MSN chat and I was stupid to click on it and now various things are screwed up...

Thanks in advance!

Note: I play online poker, so ignore that stuff.

Hello and welcome!
Please download MsnVirRem.zip
and save it to your desktop. Once in place, right click the zip file, and extract the files to your desktop. DO NOT RUN ANYTHING YET

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

In the new MsnVirRem folder, that you should have on your desktop, double click MsnVir.bat and let it run its course. A DOS window should pop up, Let it run until it disappears, it is scanning your computer so it will take some time.
After it disappears, reboot back into normal mode, and post a fresh HijackThis Log (you should now be able to)

I don't know how to open a command prompt but I think I found out how: Start -> Programs -> Accesories -> Command Prompt?

Ever since I had these problems, my IE has disappeared. When I click the shortcut, it browses for and can not find iexplore.exe. Searches find nothing.

thats a very wierd symptom, have you tried browsing for iexplorer.exe in your C:\program files\Internet Explorer\ directory? or is it not there at all.

Yes the IE folder is still there, but when I look into it there's no iexplore.exe file, however, there's a "IEXPLOR" file followed five boxes and it's a 0KB file. Perhaps this is a corrupted .exe file?

I ran a search for "ie*.exe" and it found nothing.

Thanks again for your help. Just for the record I did enter the two command prompts.

nope,

1. delete this folder: C:\program files\Internet Explorer

2. download the internet explorer files Here

3. Extract the files contents and put the new folder, in your C:\Program Files\

Lemme know if that helps. (Hopefully we wont have to re-register the DLL files)

Wow, it won't let me delete the "Iexplor" file.. that we talked about above. It gives me this error window: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk."

When I tried to delete the whole IE folder it gives me a different error window: "Cannot delete IEXPLOR (followed by five boxes): the filename , directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
