Looks like I have the Hupigon-onx virus. I have been getting re-directions in Mozilla which I thought I had repaired, either taking me from my email tab to a new site or opening a new browser window. I only detect the Hupigon during start scan with Avast, which it cannot remove because the "file is too large." Scans with Malware or SuperAntiSpyware do not show the virus. Here is my system information:

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Name BOB
System Manufacturer Dell Inc.
System Model Dell DXP051
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A00, 9/1/2005
SMBIOS Version 2.3
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume2
Locale United States
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)"
User Name BOB\Bob P
Time Zone Eastern Standard Time
Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 1.47 GB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
Page File Space 3.85 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

I can't find where Avast keeps its log file, but this is from the latest start-up scan:

C:\hiberfil.sys Threat: Win32: Hupigon-ONX(trj) Error the file was not moved to chest.

During that same scan, it moved two Java agents to the chest successfully:

Java: Agent-BF(Expl)
Java: Agent BG (Expl)

When I look for the log .txt files under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\log, I cannot find the boot scan log or earlier scan logs where other Java "threats" were moved to the chest. Also, on a regular scan, Win32:Alureon-FZ was moved to the chest.

Here are the latest log files from Malware since I started having the re-directions

I am really concerned since I have read that this virus steals financial information on the computer. I am now unable to log in to my Fia credit card account on Mozilla, athough oddly enough I can through IE! Another problem is that my computer never shipped with set-up disks, so a full formatting will be an issue, although all of my document and program files have been back-up on an external drive and this was before the redirection problems started. I do not have a "safe computer" to work from at this time. However, I am good at following directions but am not a big techie, so please give me help in plain English. Let me know if there is other information or logs you need and where I need to get it from on the computer.

Thank you so much in advance!

Bob

I have posted this problem in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs Forum under topic:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic359766.html/page__p__2012294__fromsearch__1#entry2012294

complete with logs. I feel that would be a better spot to find the help I am looking for so maybe this post may be closed?

Yes, you are better there as this is a troublesome malware and I already see issues.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
