hi, yeah so i've been using computers since the 1970's.. yeah, just a bit before personal computers. Now i just play games on them.

1.) I've been noticing some things running in task manager, like 2 instances of ati2evxx.exe under system. why do I need two running when i only have once video card?

2.) How many instances of "svchost.exe" do I need running under system? I have 2 under network service, 2 under local service and 2 under system. How many do I need for windows XP??

Oh and if anyone does want to reply, I'd really appreciate if no one does any immature "flaming" as is done on other sites, thanks :)

ALso, just replies with constructive answers as to why they are needed and or ways in which to remove the crap. Again, thanks

Just curious. anyways.

We don't flame...but some users who are in denial ("I didn't do it" or "It's not my fault" mode) historically have interpreted honesty as such. I suspect that will be a continuing trend until humans clean up the gene pool...but here's hoping :).

Question #1: I wondered about this when I had ATI video capture cards...and one day, it dawned on me that that two tuners are displayed because the card/chip supports dual-monitors. That's it, pure and simple :).

Question #2: There is no set number of services which may run under svchost.exe. Depends on what programs are installed, what update services they are running, etc. I currently reflect 8 instances of svchost.exe in Task Manager and I don't run a lot of fluff or updaters.
