My home computer has been infected by the Think Point virus. I need help with the removal of this virus. My computer at home is on a dial-up connection (if that makes a difference). I'm just in need of some removal help of the Think Point Virus. Thanks.

Hello and welcome.
Please follow our Removal Guide here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-thinkpoint .

You will move to the Automated Removal Instructions

After you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

I followed that steps to remove the virus, however, I did not retrieve the log from MBAM. I can, however, reboot just like it did before the virus got on the computer. However, I cannot open Internet Explorer so I can get on the internet and surf the web. What now? THanks

Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.

Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.

Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit.

Now check if the internet is working again.

Whenever I type inetcpl.cpl into run nothing pops up. Also, when I try to go to internet connections under control panel nothing comes up again.

Hi, I just was able to get on here, had a bust day,

Try this--open control, internet options, connections tab, lan settings, uncheck the box next to "use proxy...."
OR
Go to Start ... Run and type in cmd
A dos Window will appear.
Type in the dos window: netsh winsock reset
Click on the enter key.

Reboot your system to complete the process.

Neither option you have given me worked. I still cannot get Internet Explorer opened. Is there a way to reinstall the OS without having the disk for my computer?

Hello did you try resetting the modem and router..

There is a way to do that setup but you will have to ask in the forum at the top that corresponds with your Operating system.

I have a dial-up connection, if that makes a difference of any to what you are telling me. I will try a post in my operating system and find out about that way. Thank you for your help.

Probably the best and quickest option now.
