Hello!

I have high-speed internet and this computer...well...is about 10 years old, but it is NOT running like a dinosaur, lol.

Problem is, though, I have excess (or so) garbage on the computer, and sometimes it is not able to run as fast as it should when I first got it. I use Firefox and it is not handling websites that use like JAVA, FLASH, too well. Every once in a while (but not too much), computer buffers like it is loading something, and THAT'S when it starts slowing down. I sometimes have to close firefox.exe because it used too much memory at that time.

Not sure the exact problem, but here is the HijackThis log, as of 11/07/2010. I greatly appreciate your help:

Hello josh7g

Welcome to BleepingComputer :)
==========================
  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on OTL to run it.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
====================
Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.

If I am helping you and have not responded for 48 hours please send me a pm as I don't always get notifications.

My help is always free, however, if you would like to make a donation to me for the help I have provided please click here Posted Image

Hi the problem appears to be this > 254.00 Mb that means you have only 256mb's of memory that is the lower end of recommended memory.
Adding a stick of 512 mb would greatly improve the performance.

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    :OTL
    IE - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings: "ProxyOverride" = <local>
    IE - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings: "ProxyServer" = http=127.0.0.1:5555
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered,when it is done it will say "Fix Complete press ok to open log"
  • Please post that log in your next reply.

Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.

Great I really see nothing else other than that fixing startup items will not show much improvement until the memory is upgraded.

A memory stick of 512 mb. Can that be bought like at Best Buy or some other Electronic department in some stores? I do have music files of albums on the computer, so could that be the reason for the memory being hogged up?

Sure you can visit the below site to see what type of memory you need:
http://www.memorystock.com/

You can get it at any place that sells computer parts.
Files on the hard drive do not cause things to run slow you simply need more "juice" for the system meaning speed.
