Hi!

My comp is hijacked by Raze Spyware. I have a big red flashing screen on my desktop, telling me to purchase a product that costs $49,95.
Obviously, this is some sort of spyware.

I have followed the "Prepartation Log For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log".
After having run Adaware, Spybot, Housecall Anti Virus and Stinger, my comp still has this flashing red RazeSpyware screen.

I really hope you guys can help me out
Here's my hijackthis log:

* Click here to download smitRem.zip.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Unzip smitRem.zip to extract the files it contains.
  • Do not do anything with it yet. You will run the RunThis.bat file later in safe mode.
*Download Cleanup from Here
  • A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
  • On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
  • Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
  • Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
  • A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
  • Click OK
  • DO NOT RUN IT YET

* Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here.
  • Install ewido.

* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.

* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
si

* Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

* Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.

* Restart back into Windows normally now.

* Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it. Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you can delete it yourself.

Hi David, and thank you very much for helping me out with this problem.

I did exactly as you told me to. The red "raze spyware" logo on my desktop is gone. However, now my background is grey. I can barely see the original windows background as a strip where the task bar is when it is not hidden. When I move the cursor over an icon on the desktop, the background turns white.

There's a bit more to do first:

Please do both of the following before we start if possible!:

1) Please print off these intructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available.
2) Save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
At the moment you may feel like you battling with your computer to keep it running smoothly, but doing the following things should most certainly help getting it back to how it was
_____________________

Download KillBox here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip
Save it to your desktop.
DO NOT run it yet.
_____________________

With IE closed, run Hijack This again.
Put a checkmark on these entries and hit "fix checked":

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Time Sync] C:\Program Files\Time Sync\time.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows Update] scvvhost.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [svphost.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svphost.exe

_____________________

Boot into Safe Mode

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Now put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\Program Files\Time Sync\time.exe
C:\WINDOWS\switpc.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\scvvhost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svphost.exe

_____________________

Manually delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\Time Sync
_____________________

Please Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder. (if you cannot delete some items it's fine!)
_____________________

Then go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box.
The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.
_____________________

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. m
Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.
Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button.
Click Apply then OK.
_____________________

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Hi again, David!

I did exactly as described.
Everything went fine, except when trying to delete "scvvhost.exe" and "svphost.exe" with Killbox, the files weren't to be found (could that be because I had already deleted them when I "fixed" them with HijackThis?

Anyway, the steps you gave me didn't do anything with my background.
I still have the greyish background covering the area where the Raze Spyware logo used to be. When I move the cursor over an icon on the desktop, the background turns white.

I hope you don't give up on me.
Again, thank you very much for bothering!

Here is my latest HJT log:

Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab > uncheck and delete everything you find in there. (except for "My current home page")

Download Silent Runners.zip and extract it to a new folder on your Desktop.
  • Run the Silent Runners.vbs file.
  • You will receive a prompt: "Do you want to skip supplementary searches?" - click "NO."
  • If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow Silent Runners.vbs to run.
  • This script is not malicious so please allow it.
  • A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run. (It won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file, and copy & paste it in your next reply.

Hi again, David!

I did like you said. Under the webtab in "Customize Desktop" I found an item called "security".
Deleting that one seemed to do the trick - now the annoying grey background is gone and back is my original Windows background.

I ran "Silent Runners" and below you see the log.

Thank you so much for helping me out here!
People like you make life so much easier for us computer owners, and so much harder for those bastards terrorizing us with all this malware.

Please let me know if you find anything suspicious in the log below.

Everything's running excellent so far.
This experience has learnt me the importance of being properly protected by anti-virus, etc.
If I were to buy a product to protect my comp from similar attacks, which product should I go for?

Ok! Glad i was able to help you!

The log is clean! :flowers:

I recommend ewido if you were to buy one! :trumpet:

If i have helped you please consider making a donation using the "make a donation" button in my signature. My help is free, but please consider it to keep me fighting spyware for you and others! :inlove:

Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore. In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.
