I get a pop up message "Security Warning: Application cannot be executed. The file _____ is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" With the ____ being various file names. This happens whenever I tried to open a program (except for firefox), including when I tried to open paint.net to save a screenshot, so no screenshots for you.
I also get a message with an AVG icon that says:
Online Shield Alert
Accessed file is infected
Threat was blocked:
Threat name: Trojan horse Dropper.Generic2.BPJX
Then there's a box that says:
Antivirus software alert
Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan-dropper or similar.
+ more that I didn't write down
And while I was writing this all down, a big giant window that says:
Attention! Spyware alert
Your computer is infected by spyware
+ a lot more I didn't write down
[activate your antivirus software] [stay unprotected]
I attempted to follow the instructions for removal at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/8693/how-to-remove-antivirus-live-and-other-roguefake-antivirus-malware/
Step 1: Run SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner
Results: Virus wouldn't let me; just got a pop-up message saying the file was infected
Step 2: Go into Safe Mode with Networking
Results: Blue Screen of Death
Step 3: Run ComboFix
Results: Read ComboFix's giant huge fiery warning o'doom that it should not be run without supervision, and came here instead
