Posted 24 November 2005 - 12:30 AM

I have a DSL connection and a Gateway 2Wire HomePortal Modem. When I first had this set-up, the connection worked fine and I was able to access the modem's homepage and configure it. About one month ago, I could no longer acces the modem's homepage by any means. Whether I entered the gateway ip address into the address bar or the home page address (http://gateway.2wire.net/), it would tell me that "The page connot be displayed." I called their tech support and said that was probably spyware or a hijacker. I have owned SpySweeper for more than a year, upgrade it as soon as it is available, but it is finding nothing related to the hijacking, because the problem prosists, even if it does find something on my computer. I have decided that this is most likely due to a hijacking. I have provided a HJT log in order to be reviewed by one of your experts. I run XP Home with SP2, and XP Firewall. Please help me.

Their answer was a BS answer. Your log is completely clean. Have you tried connecting to it using https:// instead of http://

I've solved the problem. It was caused by a system monitor, named "netchatspy". The recent Spy Sweeper definitions detected and removed it. I figured it was either spyware or a hacker, because the modem page worked when I first got, when I pressed the back button it didn't respond until I pressed it again, IE was loading rather slowly, and most images were blocked out. These things are usually casued by malicious software. Thanks anyway.
