I have apparently gotten a redirect virus in my system. I experience random redirects from google searches to alternate sites via R3.google.com and Push-analytics.com., nothing overtly malacious, but annoying.

I use AVG for antivirus. It missed whatever got in.
I have run MBAM, Spybot, Adaware, Malicious software removal tool,CWshredder, rootkitbuster, SuperAntiSpyware, HouseCall and Stinger.
All indicate that there were no threats other than tracking cookies.

Please let me know what can be done to clear this annoyance.

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Thank you for getting to my problem.
When I do a google search my system will often be directed to a site simular to what I have searched for. There will be pop under screens that are trying to access other sites via R3.google.com, epoclick.com, push-analyticc.com and the like.
I have had a pop up of the "Caution, Your Computer contains a variety of suspicious programs" please see the attached pdf screen shot.
As I type this a new screen is trying to access http://72.233.76.70/p/index.php?PHPSESSID=64f3e0bb03b194f0b6ec480a5f004a329175cbaca2a05921e2ec6290d8722a4bcb086a41ce128336513c4cc15337d7393319e6aa4bccf0&d=1289512182

I have attached the DDS.txt log, the Attach.test log and the GMER log as requested.

Please let me know what I need to do next.

Thanks again

Hi-

Thank you for the scan reports. We need to dig deeper into your system to see what is going on.

Scan With RKUnHooker (RKU)
  • Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it to your desktop.
  • Now double-click on RKUnhookerLE.exe to run it.
  • Click the Report tab, then click Scan.
  • Check (Tick) Drivers, Stealth. Uncheck the rest. then Click OK.
  • Wait till the scanner has finished and then click File, Save Report.
  • Save the report somewhere where you can find it. Click Close.

Copy the entire contents of the report and paste it in your reply.
Note** you may get this warning it is ok, just ignore

"Rootkit Unhooker has detected a parasite inside itself!
It is recommended to remove parasite, okay?"

When I looked at the scan reports, I did not see an Anti Virus Program running on your machine and one is needed to help prevent more infections
  • Download and install an antivirus program, and make sure that you keep it updated.
New viruses come out every minute, so it is essential that you have the latest signatures for your antivirus program to provide you with the best possible protection from malicious software.
Two good antivirus programs, free for non-commercial home use, are Avast! and Antivir
Note: You should only have one antivirus installed at a time. Having more than one antivirus program installed at once is likely to cause conflicts and may well decrease your overall protection as well as impair the performance of your PC.

In your reply, please copy in the RKU report.

Thanks,
Shannon

Thanks for getting back to me.

I can't access Rootkit.com for the unHookerLE program.
I've tried via DSl on this computer and via aircard on a second machine.
No joy on either.

Is there a mirror site where I can download Rootkit Unhooker .

Thanks again

Thanks ,

I was able to download and run RootKit Unhooker. The report is posted below.

I had un-installed all antivirus/malware software to present a clean slate. Avira is currently running.

Thanks again

Hi-

I was happy to see that you were able to download and run Rootkit Unhooker even if it didn't find any infection.

It is time to start cleaning up some of the problems.

Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: how-to-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

How to Temporarily Disable your Anti-virusl

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please copy the "C:\ComboFix.txt" into your reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your reply, please copy in the ComboFix report, and let me know how your computer is running now.
Shannon

Hi.

This may be a second post. I was redirected in the middle of my previous reply.

I downloaded and ran ComboFix.
I am apparently still being redirected.

Here is the ComboFix report.
Let me know what else I need to do.

Thanks again

Hi-

ComboFix didn't find the problem(s) so we will look elsewhere.

Before we start
, please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please click this link-->Jotti
When the Jotti page has finished loading, click Jotti's Browse button and navigate to the following file and click the Submit file button within Jotti.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\nv4_mini.sys

If Jotti reports that the file has been scanned before and gives you those results, click on the Scan Again button.
Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.
If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Next, please download MBRCheck by clicking here and save it to your desktop.
  • Be sure to disable your security programs.
  • Double click on the file to run it (Vista and Windows 7 users will have to confirm the UAC prompt).
  • A window will open on your desktop.
  • If an unknown bootcode is found you will have further options available to you, at this time press N then press Enter twice.
  • If nothing unusual is found just press Enter.
  • A .txt file named MBRCheck_mm.dd.yy_hh.mm.txt should appear on your desktop.
  • Please post the contents of that file in your next reply.
Next, please run GMER again and copy the new log into your reply.

Finally, you have AVG 2011 remnants in your system that should be removed.

To fully uninstall AVG download the AVG Uninstaller and save to your desktop. Once downloaded, double click on its icon and follow the instructions. You will probably have to reboot.

In your reply, please copy in the MBRCheck and GMER reports, and let me know the results of the Jotti scan.
Shannon

Thanks,

The Jotti Check showed nothing found on all scans.

The GMER and MBR scans follow.

Still having pop-up and pop-under windows and redirects.

Hi-

The infection is hiding from us. Since it is possible that your router is infected, is it possible for you to hook your computer into a different network?

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • Press Start Scan
  • If Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
  • Click Continue > Reboot now
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply
Note:A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\)
Next, we need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from here:
  • Main Mirror
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Change the "Extra Registry" option to "Use SafeList"
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste in the contents of the CODE box.

  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them into your reply:
  • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
  • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

In your reply, please copy in the TDSSKiller report and the two OTL reports. Please let me know how the computer is running and if there is another network you can use for testing.

Thanks again for all the time and effort.

I ran TDSSKiller and OTL. All 3 reports are below.

Since you mentioned that there may be a router problem I have reset the router and run a DNS flush on this system.

I can bypass the router and plug directly to the modem if necessary.

I haven't had a redirect this session, but I haven't done any google searches.

Let me know what else I need to do.

I will do some searches and see if the redirect is still in effect.

Thanks again

Hi-

TDSSKiller did not find the infection either. Have you had a chance to do some searches to see if you are still being redirected? If you are still being redirected, does it happen with both Internet Explorer and Firefox?
Shannon
