I work in a small office where I am the closest thing we have to an IT person, but that is only because everyone else knows even less than I do. Because my station in an 8 machine network seems to be heavily bogged down with viruses, despite running an up to date Trend Micro product, I called in my IT guy. He tweaked a few things, but wanted to run ComboFix, which he couldn't download at that moment. So he gave me the reference to this site and told me to have at it today.

I have downloaded the program, disabled trend micro, and run combofix. I am sitting at a different terminal so as to not interfere with its running. It has now completed and generated a log.

The instructions say open a new topic and contact a helper for further instructions once the program has run. So, here I am. The log is on the screen of the computer where I have run the program.

What now?

Please forgive me if I am not doing this correctly, as it is my first use. I have read a little more, and I wanted to attach my ComboFix log to this email, but I don't see, or can't find an icon to attach the file. It is probably obvious to everyone else, but then, if I was so smart, I would have fixed the problem myself in the first place. I assume that I am not to cut and paste it into the body of this email.

Also, by way of additional information, whatever I have, and funning ComboFix has not solved, prevents me from launching Mozilla Firefox, but it doesn't prevent IE. I could delete and reinstall it, but I don't know if that would solve anything. And, I guess I should re-activate my Trend Micro antivirus, no?

Please note the message text in blue at the top of the Am I infected? What do I do? forum.

No one should be using ComboFix unless specifically instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert who can interpret the logs. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

With that said, ComboFix logs are not permitted outside the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum and then only when requested by a Malware Response Team member. Please read the pinned topic ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here.

 ComboFix logs, where should I post them?

... if you ran ComboFix on your own due to malware infection, please be aware that a ComboFix log is only one part of the disinfection process. Therefore we ask that you please read the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help". When you have done that, post the required logs to include your ComboFix log in that forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team Experts.

When you have done that and are ready to post all your logs, just copy and paste them into your new thread.
