Hello. I have been reading this forum for a long time. Every time until now I am able to solve my problem just from reading through the posts. Today I cannot.

I cannot run anything related to security. I cannot install an antivirus. I can install SAS, Spybot S&D, PrevX, and MBAM, but when I run them, they shut off shortly after and the icon turns to a generic white box with a blue top and then when I try to run them again I get an error stating it is not a valid win32 application. I CAN run HiJack This, ComboFix, and the SAS Standalone tool -- but, these all shut off about 10 - 20 seconds into running.

I tried using Rkill... on a test machine, the text document gave a long list of things it shut down. On the problem machine it only shuts down one thing "\\.\globalroot\Device\svchost.exe\svchost.exe" and I cannot find this file.

I was able to install Ccleaner and use its tools. But then again, Ccleaner is not a security tool. The symptoms are the same in both Safe and Regular Modes.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
