I use Microsoft's automatic updates and it recently dowloaded 6 updates but for some reason they won't install. It runs through them one by one but then just says...failed! after each attempt. I recently had the Google redirect virus that I finally got rid of so I'm not sure if something has been damaged in the process.

Here are the updates that won't install:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2416447)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2418241)
Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB983583)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this a problem? Is there a way to fix it. I appreciate any help

Thanks
DG

I had the same problem about a month ago. It was suggested that I should uninstall and reinstall all versions of .NET Framework using Add/Remove Programs and the .NET Framework cleanup utility. I uninstalled .NET Framework 3.5 and I decided not to reinstall it as I suspected I might not need it. I have had no problems and no more updates. When I tried to uninstall .NET Framework 2.0, it would not do so because I need the program. So you may need some versions of the program and may not need others depending on whether you have an app that needs it. .NET Framework is a very confusing product.

Thanks for the response, It makes me wonder whether I should just not worry about it and tell automtatic updates to ignore those updates. Currently everything seems to be running fine. I don't know if that would cause issues in the future?

I agree -- .NET Framework definitely confuses me.

Thanks again.

Basically, you need .NET Framework only, if some program calls for some version of it.
Until then, you don't need any of them.
You can safely uninstall all of them and wait for that call.
