Navigate to your C: drive > Program Files > look for Microsoft Office

What do you see?

Also, check to make sure it shows up in your Start Menu.

There is an office folder. But within the folder are two files that are dated at the time I opened word for the first time. Neither of these files will open.

Here is what I find when I look for the file:

Does Office show in "Programs and Features" (in Control Panel)?

It's looks like you don't have it installed. There should be lots of files under Office14.

If you don't have the installation media (downloaded file or physical disk), you can just keep using OpenOffice. Besides, Office Starter is limited from what I've heard.

If you have your product key, it's possible to get Office back without having to buy a retail copy.

But I'm guessing Office Starter came preinstalled with your new computer. In that case, it may have just been a trial version that removed itself after the trial ended.

I say keep using OpenOffice, unless you want to fork $150 over to Micro$oft.
