Hello All-

I'm not sure where to begin other than this problem has been going on with this computer for quite some time. Performance issues being the main complaint. I've lost my touch over the years with my ability to diagnose and repair computer viruses, etc... help! I have all the logfiles from the scans the 'preparation guide' calls for, and I'll write out a more specific description below as well.

Symptoms:

- have to press 'reload' almost everytime when going to an internet page in firefox or chrome... won't load on the first attempt, but does on the second, or sometimes third. Sometimes never.
- very often, when loading a page in FireFox or Chrome, the page does not finish loading in its entirety, and half of the content is missing, or not formated correctly, example: picture chopped and rearranged all weird.
- Can't watch more than 3 seconds, or sometimes 42 seconds, of a video on youtube, etc. before it won't play anymore, even though the player continues to buffer
- When downloading .exe or other executable type files, it can't be opened, and needs to be re-downloaded to open correctly. Sometimes it won't open correctly at all.
- for example: when opening the file: c:\users\comp\download\483kb2t8.exe I get the message: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail". And this is only one of several different types of error messages I get on this computer when attempting to open a program. Others involve a system 32 or something or other.
- Reading forums, I thought it was the "beagle" virus, and when running the fxbeagle.exe program in an attempt to remove it (it didn't find the beagle virus...) I got a "R6034 an application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly" message throughout the scan.
- Norton Antivirus is currently "at risk" and "fix now" attempts yield nothing in terms of repairing it. When I download the 'remove program' from Norton, it won't open correctly after it is downloaded pursuant to one of the random error messages mentioned above.

Fix attempts:
- running a 'check disk' had to be run in safe mode, as it wouldn't load in the regular operating mode. Nothing really to be fixed there.
- Norton Antivirus found nothing...
- HijackThis logfile looked 'normal'... some questions about the Norton Antivirus deal, but no super red-flags
- Malwarebytes came up with nothing
- Spybot search and destroy has found nothing other than cookies

Everything turns up 'clean'!!! I have no idea what is causing all these issues, and not sure how to fix it! Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you,

-Fourstop

P.S.

Another symptom:

Sometimes when attempting to open a new webpage in firefox or Chrome, the browsers will attempt to 'download' the page? It opens the download dialog box in the bottom of the browser. Weird.

  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply

Hello Gringo,

Thanks for taking a look at this post, I appreciate it.

I may have misread your post, but I believe that I did run Defogger, DDS, and GMER? The First Log (DDS) was posted within the body of the first post, and the logs are attached to the first post as well. Do you need me to run them again? If so, just let me know and I'd be happy to give them another run.

Thanks.
