I don't know how many times I've tried to create this post. I have booted into a Live-CD Ubuntu distribution to be able to enter this information outside the control of this compromised Windows system.

I was able to run the DDS program and have the results to post here. The GMER program blue-screened during both attempts, but on the second attempt, I did a SAVE command during the test cycle, so I have some partial results to post.

Here is the DDS txt file output...

============= FINISH: 14:16:34.12 ===============

I have attached the Attach.txt file and the (partial) Ark.txt file as well.

I thank you in advance for any assistance.

Edit:

The blue-screens gave the following information:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
pxtdipow.sys Address AFB1137D base at AFB05000
stop 0x00000050 (FF3B100B, 0 , AFB1137D, 0)

While waiting for a reply, I did some further research/experimentation. I found the original Windows XP installation disk with the intent of reinstalling Windows from scratch.

However, before I tried that, I instead went into the Repair Console, and tried doing a FIXMBR command. I figured it couldn't do any worse than what was already there (since I was already prepared to do a full reinstallation of Windows).

The FIXMBR procedure indicated that a new MBR had been written. I was surprised to see that my data was still intact, but that the Alureon MBR infection was no longer being reported by the Avira RescueCD scanner!

Other promising signs:

GOOGLE is no longer redirecting any search results, and I have no trouble starting the applications on my computer.

I will therefore do some more testing, and close this thread within 24 hours if no other problems arise.

(this was posted from the "infected" machine using Windows)

I have been asked to keep this thread open for yet another 24 hours while my friend does more thorough testing on her computer. I apologize if there is a way to edit the prior post without a "Fast Reply", but I couldn't find it.
