I have a Compaq Presario AMD 3000+ about 4 years old running on MS Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Recently while on Firefox I got attacked by malware. Although Spotty was running plenty of stuff still loaded up. After this Winpatrol wouldn't work and neither would malwarebytes. After much effort I was able to get malwarebytes running and cleaned some things up. Ran again and more were present. Almost immediately upon startup my screen goes blank after about 1 second. The monitor is on but you only see black. If I boot the computer a few times usually I can get it to stay on. I also downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and it also found some trojans and malware.

Could these two problems be related? If so how do I remove the viruses? If they are not what do I do about the monitor and how to fix viruses.
