Good day to you Gurus again.

Windows Home Basic.

I installed the latest Live Messenger. Since then, every time I add a contact it is blocked. Ok it is easy to unblock but a PITA. Also when someone I'm chatting to puts an Emoticon on the page, if I try to save it, it tells me the name I have used for it is already being used. I have tried putting in other words with the same result.
I reinstalled Messenger 9 and now am having the same problem with that as well although it was fine before I uninstalled it.
Your comments and suggestions appreciated as usual.
George.

Sounds to me like you have a corrupted installation. Where did you get the newest version of Windows Live?

I would highly recommend that you download the latest Windows Live from:

http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials?os=other and only that site.

I have downloaded and installed that version. Now it isn't blocking new contacts but when someone tries to get me they tell me that I am showing as Off Line.

THen something is corrupting your download/installation. It should install without any issues, and maybe its a compatibility issue between your version and theirs

I scanned the download with MalwareBytes and SuperAnti SpyWare before installing. The install was painless. The person I was chatting to also has 2011 version.

Then I would recommend Revo Uninstaller to completely remove Windows Live Messenger and then reinstall it.

I have used the Revo Uninstaller.
It has highlighted over 1500 registry items. How do I know which are safe to delete?

So highlighting all the bold ones for deletion will not cause me any Registry problems.
Sorry to be a nuisance. Just being cautious.

No as it tells you to only remove the bold options. I have used Revo and it works well

I deleted all the bold items and restarted my computer.
I now get a message - Publisher could not be verified. name\AppData\Local\temp\dspmrbjcf\xyapwjddlta.exe

I reinstaller Windows Live messenger and got the following message -
msnmsgr.exe Unable to locate component.
This application failed to start because wldlog.dll was not found.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling three times with the same results.

Malware Removal Log thread at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic357423.html/page__p__1996115#entry1996115

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the logs you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another Malware Removal Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Louis
