Hi, I have been trying for hours to do something about this. The Antivirus 2010 kept popping up, I've tried Malwarebytes', SAS, AVG. I think I have seen every thread or other advice on this entire website, and nothing I have tried has helped. Malwarebytes' installs, but wont scan, and then if I try again, I get the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file." I tried to use the command prompt advice as given on the first page I found about removing Antivirus 2010, but that didn't work. So, I uninstalled Malwarebytes, re-installed, changed the name of the .exe, still to no avail. It's the same story with SAS and AVG. AVG did manage to stick the win32.krap.ao into it's vault, but I don't know what to do with it there. The actual window for the Antivirus 2010 has stopped popping up since I tried rkill.com but the redirecting is still happening, and the scans still wont scan. I will post my DDS, but when it came time to scan in the GMER program, that shut down too. It doesn't give the same message, it just doesn't do anything if you click on it. Oh, also when this all started yesterday, there was a big black square in the middle of my background, that said 'Security Alert' and the actual background picture was gone. The picture has since returned, and that square is gone. If that means anything. Any help would be much appreciated :) OH and also! The prep guide that tells you all about that says to attach the attach.txt file to this post, but the actual file says not to do that unless specifically asked for it.... so... I'm not going to.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Hello

AVG right now is very hard to shut down long enough to run our scans and is actively going after some of our tools - for this reason we are going to have to remove it until we are finished

I would like you to uninstall AVG and run their AVG removal tool

You may install this antivirus while we are working and until we are done and then if you wish you may reinstall AVG - Antivir PersonalEdition Classic

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Okay, I uninstalled AVG and another anti virus thing that I couldn't close, Webroot with SpySweeper(I think) they both called for a restart to be completely uninstalled. After the second restart I clicked to log in to the user account, and all I got was the background picture again, like when all of this started. No start menu, no task bar, etc. I then manually turned off the computer and turned it back on, and my start menu and the rest of everything came back. Then I ran combofix, and during it's first restart, when it came back on, it just sat there with a black screen. Nothing else happened for a long time. So... I manually turned it off and back on again. Combofix popped right back up again and finished it's scanning and was fine after that. The only problems I have noticed since the Combofix is this box pops up still, when windows starts that says: "The procedure entry point apsSearchInterface could not be located in the dynamic link" and the Browser still redirects. Here is my Combofix Log.

Hello

It looks like the rootkit is still active. I want you to run this tool for me next.

tdsskiller:

Please read carefully and follow these steps.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

RootKit::
c:\windows\system32\drivers\vbmaf18a.sys

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?

The boxes keep popping up at each restart, "Route.exe entry point not found" and then "the procedure entry point...." the message is always a little different it seems. Everything seems to be the same.

Hello

good now lets go after ipnat.sys

update combofix

I would like you to download an updated virsion of combofix.

Delete the version of combofix you have now on your desktop and download a new one from here

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Close any open browsers.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
[/list]

Again, when ComboFix tried to shut down the computer, it froze and I had to manually turn it off and turn it back on, and those windowns popped up again, if that is important at all. ComboFix ran smoothly after that:
