I seem to have a redirect virus. I'm on vista home premium on a HP pavillion notebook, running Firefox as web browser.

About two days ago, I noticed something weird happening when I used the net. Sometimes, but not always, when I clicked on a link it would redirect me. I tried to test it out on a search engine and it redirected me to a trojan sight which started downloading. I quickly ripped out the ethernet cable, but I'm not sure if I caught it in time. I ran the anti-virus software on my computer (Avira, Malwarebytes and AdAware), as well as CCleaner. They did nothing. I updated them again, and still nothing. Meanwhile, the net was starting to slow down whenever I clicked on the link, and to get to the page I wanted, I either had to open in a new window or stop the page running and then reload. Otherwise I get a page that infini-loaded, and slowed down the net to the point that it would stop responding and I'd have to shut off the computer, or it would say that the page couldn't be found.

I tried the quick fixes -- TDSS killer, finding the TDSS file manually and even going into the hosts file. TDSS killer did nothing. I couldn't find any file when I went to find the TDSS manually, nothing was there. The hosts file fix didn't do anything either (But I did find a line from facebook. Facebook, you disgust me.). After that, I came across your site. Meanwhile, the computer was starting to run slower and slower. Programs start infiniloading if I leave them for more than a few minutes, and I have to turn the computer off and then on again and restart them. My Add Blocker Plus app. is no longer working, nor is my BlockSite. Start up is taking longer and longer, and at the start of every start-up is a suspicious looking 'fastscan', which I have stopped quickly every time, but maynot have caught quickly enough. CCleaner is getting stuck on one file whenever I run it, and I have to turn it off and then on again. Also the power icon for my laptop is now showing up empty whenever I turn it on.

When I went to follow the instructions to post on the site, I had the following problems:

*I couldn't back-up the computer using any software suggested. It all had errors.
*The defogger aplication may or may not have worked (it infiniloaded.).
*The GMER log worked, but took too long to finish it's task, so when I went to save it, it infiniloaded.

I do however have the Attach and DDS logs:

DDS:

That's all, I think. Thank you. Also, if you do want to help me, please use small words; on top of having a figuritive computer virus, I also do actually have a real legitimate virus, which has made everything ten times worse.

Thanks,

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.

  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.
