I cannot open certain things, and the computer is saying that is bc the rundll.exe file can not be
found. I am assuming it got deleted through my virus or malware cleaners?

Can I download this somewhere....what can I do.

I am running Windows98.

Thank You
-Cheryl

You need your Windows 98 CD handy and run System File Checker from the 'System Tools' menu. This will detect if rundll32.exe etc. are missing or corrupted and will replace them from the CD.
Do NOT replace user.exe if prompted to do so. You should run Windows Update afterwards.

Thank You very much for your help, quietman.
I downloaded the file and now everything will open.
When I open say control panel n' add/remove program a warning from my
malware comes up saying the rundll32.exe file MAY be a malware or trojan, which is
prob. why I deleted it in the 1st place. Why do you think it is doing this?

I am using that "a-squared malware remover" program.

Rundll32.exe is a valid system file which executes a DLL. The actual command may be Rundll32.exe filename.dll. That DLL may be infected.

Try these online Virus scans:

Trend Micro Housecall
1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free". It will take a few minutes to download an ActiveX componet so be patient.
3. When its done, select "all available drives".
4. Check (tick) "Auto Clean".
5. Click "Scan".

Panda ActiveScan
[be sure you tick "Disinfect automatically under Scan Options"]
