Hello,

I started experiencing this problem yesterday. At first, I just noticed that if I ran a search in yahoo or google, then clicked on the site I wished to visit, I would get re-directed to a bunch of random sites (a different site each time). Soon after, the speed of my computer slowed significantly. I ran AVG and it came up with nothing. So I ran two other anti-spyware programs (Spybot Search & Destroy and SuperAnitSpyware). Both found many issues and I removed all of them. But the problem persisted. I then ran Hijack this and, before I go any further, it suggested that I post the log if I wasn't sure what to do. I'm far from a computer expert, so any help would be greatly appreciated in ridding my computer of this awful problem.

Thank you in advance for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

here is the log file from hijack this:

Hi,

Thanks for your response. My computer is currently at a friend of my father's being diagnosed. I'm pretty sure I don't want to pay what they will ask, but I don't have an estimate yet. So when I get my computer back, I will follow the instructions above and post the results.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I think I'll just have to send you a pm with the info rather than keep this thread going. My call on Friday hasn't been returned yet, I think the guy closed early for the weekend. So I am still without the computer. When I get it back, I will follow the instructions above and send a pm.

Thanks

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.

1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Right now, things seem a lot better. I've tried a few searched using yahoo and google and all have been directed to the correct sites so far. Programs also seem to be opening a little faster than they were as well.

Greetings

Good That cleaned up some bad guys but I see some other stuff that we need to go after, so I want you to run this custom script for me.

:Run CFScript:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

File::
C:\uglcypob.sys

RegNull::
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1606135795-781258832-1341138602-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{62FD62DA-7CD0-3242-09E8-1132228B05B4}*]
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1606135795-781258832-1341138602-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\{C1D6FE47-8D30-24C8-D71A-1D576DCAD106}*]

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Posted Image
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following

  • report from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now after running the script?
