Hello,

I have been experiencing some issues with my Acer Aspire One Netbook. It is model AOA 150, running Windows XP SP3. The issues began about a month ago, and while I am usually able to clear them myself, I am unable to currently clear all of the issues. Ultimately, I want to get my computer to be able to run Acer eRecovery to restore to factory settings, and go from there. Being a netbook, there is no optical drive and I do not have a backup disk for eRecovery or XP. There is a hidden recovery partition on the netbook, that I have used in the past, however, I cannot seem to access it. When I look in Disk Management, it is empty. The C: drive is not present, let alone the recovery partition. The other issues that are present include a google redirect issue with IE and Opera, a Generic Host Process for Win32 Servies error (Will attach a screenshot of the error message below, attached as 'Clipboard01.jpg'). Also, when running eRecovery from the desktop, I encounter an exception with details below. When running eRecovery on startup with Alt+F10, I recieve the following error: "File \minint\system32\KDCOM.DLL could not be loaded. The error code is 4." Finally, like many other users, I have encountered a svchost.exe process that can sometimes use 1/4 of my working memory. I have run scans with Symantec Endpoint Protection, SUPERAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. None of those were able to clear the issues I am encountering. I have all of my data backed up and therefore can and will restore to factory settings as soon as is possible, I just need to get to that point. I am fairly computer literate and am more than willing to download and run programs as needed. I will also attach my most recent HJ log below.

Thank you
Ryan

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine

Hello bloomer3

Welcome to BleepingComputer :)
==========================

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan or rootkit.

This type of infection has the capabilities to allows hacker to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identity Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do.

If you still want to clean it please do the following

===================
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is required, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
========
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.

If I am helping you and have not responded for 48 hours please send me a pm as I don't always get notifications.

My help is always free, however, if you would like to make a donation to me for the help I have provided please click here Posted Image

kahdah,

I would be ok with reformatting, but I must say that this is the only computer I currently have working, and therefore have no choice but to access the internet. I understand I am doing so at my own risk. I would, however, like to attempt a clean first, and make my final decisions from there. (I currently not at home, and will not be until tomorrow night, and therefore will not be able to reformat, as I cannot add any recent files to my external HDD).

I will reply again once I have run TDSSKiller and ComboFix.

Thank you

bloom

Great how are things running?

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on OTL to run it.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.
