Aero theme makes use of the new user interface featuring translucent windows, subtle animations, live thumbnails, glass like transparency etc.
A standard theme lacks all these Aero features.
A classic theme is a replica of Windows 2000 look.

It depends if your graphics card is capable of running Aero theme.
