I was having a problem with my computer. My OS is Windows XP.

The infection that is found in Malwarebytes is a Root.kit Agent.

My computer has been being a little slow when on the internet and just browsing on it. Not horrible but noticable.

I know RootKits are bad and can expose personal information. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The DDS did not work it just kept giving symbols like ::::

The GMER did and found exactly want Malware bytes found.

So if anyone could help that would be great. Thank you very much.

I have attached the GMER log.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit scanner. Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

Hi ya doin. I decided to just reformat my HD and put on all my information.

I got a call from Road Runner saying my account was suspended because a virus was in my computer and sending bulk spam e-mail to all the customers.

I am going to reformat 2morrow. I attached a GMER log in my previous reply. The DDS scan did not work. But as of right now I'm not able to go on the internet with my computer. I am using a spare one right now.

If you can help or you think it would be best to just reformat let me know. My present HD is about 8 years old anyways and I was going to put in a slightly used and much never HD.

thank you

It certainly looks like you have a rootkit on board, but it's your decision if you would like to try and remove it (and any other infections) or go for a reformat.

Let me know what you decide.

I think I am going to just go ahead and reformat. Time Warner cable said if it goes on teh internet again(my computer) and starts doing this again they would have to suspend our whole account and then have a repair bill for my computer from a place like Best Buy or something. So I think I am just going to have one of my co-workers who is very knowledgable about computer reformatt and put all my info back on from my external harddrive.I back up all my info when my computer was infected, do you tihnk i should can it all before i put it back on my clean computer. It looks liek the rootkit only was hidding out in the registry and other hidden folders under system 32.

But thank you anyways for your help, I will deff come back to this site if i get a another virus someday and can't get rid of it!

Again thank you!

Just make sure you run a virus scan on the drive and you should be OK.

I'll get someone to close this topic then.
