When I click on any entry in the search page results, the browser redirects or jumps to a paid ad page. Sometimes clicking on the back arrow takes me to the page I clicked on, but not always. Sometimes the browser is stuck on the ad page. If I cut and paste the URL, the browser will go to the correct site.

MacAfee virus tools found 51 trojans, then Stinger found another one, and the Malwarebytes found 8 more. Malwarebytes would not run until I changed the name. However, these fixes have not solved the problem.

Per instructions on this site I ran defogger and dds. I tried to run gmer, but it will not run.

Thank you.

Dan

Hello dan9463 ,

Don't worry about gmer for now....this is pretty common, and sometimes even on a "normal" system. No worries. smile.gif

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. If McAfee gives you any problems, you may have to temporarily uninstall it. For some reason, this is common with McAfee. dry.gif

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to fluffybunny.exe and try again.

Thanks,
tea

Hello teacup61,
I ran ComboFix and the problem seems to be resolved! (I did have to rename ComboFix to get it to run.)
ComboFix log attached. Does it indicate I need to do anything more?
Thanks very much!
Dan

Hwello,

Looks like you had a rootkit there....glad it's better. smile.gif Can you please have a run with MBAM and post the report? If there is anything to post. Otherwise don't worry about it. Still running all right? It should be with that rootkit gone now. If all is well we'll clean up our stuff and finish thumbup2.gif

Thanks,
tea

Hello Dan,

You're most welcome. :)

Uninstall ComboFix by doing the following :

Click Start>Run>Type in, or copy and paste ComboFix /Uninstall > click OK

Your Adobe is outdated. It should be caught up, as Adobe's older versions are vulnerable to malware attack.

You can uninstall or delete the other little tools you used along the way during this.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, otherwise take care!

tea
