Why wont it fill the screen

I have new computer and widescreen samsung monitor, power surge fries computer, so i get new one and i hook it up and it wont fill the screen, looks like old tv 3;4 format or whatever that is called

what do i do? thanks

Hi randy and welcome to the forum!

Whats the brand and model of the monitor?
A lot of times you can go into the on screen display via the buttons on the monitor and look for an auto adjust setting.
It may show you where that is in the manual. Thats why I was asking for the make/model of the monitor
In the beginning there was the command line.
