ORIGINAL MESSAGE-So I am completely computer illiterate. I'm at work and my IE keeps redirecting me to different sites when I try to search something on google. It's been like this for a couple weeks. I researched it and figure I have the "google redirect virus" or whatever it's called that is hard to detect. I've ran virus scans with symantec (that's what we use at work). It came up clean. I downlaoded and ran the malwarebytes at quick scan and it detected 5 "viruses". Not sure which kind they were. I deleted them and restarted the computer. The virus is still there, so I ran the full scan and it detected 7 more which I deleted and restarted the computer. Once again, google still redirects me. I will add, that when I went to run the Malwarebyte scan it wouldn't let me. I had to follow instructions from another question on your site to change the name and extension to get it started. I have no clue what to do next, and like I said, I know nothing about computers. It took hours of research to even figure out how to download and run the Malwarebytes scanner. My boss is to cheap to call our IT guy because it's not interfering with any work programs. It's just so darn annoying. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I received a reply to follow the Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help and once finished to repost my question and info.

Step 1 I did not complete because it's a work computer and I didn't have a burnable DVD or back up drive. I don't know much abot computers and was worried about it messing up something. If it were my personal computer I would have.

Step 2 I skipped because my computer isn't slow. I came to this site because of the google redirecting virus.

Step 3&4&5 were already done.

Step 6 I had to click on the DeFogger link 3 times because IE kept givivng me an OOPS message....I did steps 1-5. It didn't prompt me to reboot the computer.

Step 7 Once again had to click on the link twice because of getting an OOPS message...After saving it to my desk top I didn't disable any script-blocking because I didn't know what that was or how to do it. I got the scurity warning and clicked run. I saved the DDS.txt and Attach.txt as instructed.

Step 8 I followed the instructions and once I got to the gmer.exe folder part I got the security warning. I clicked Run as directed if this happened...I had an issue and accidentally unchecked C:/ and the computer shut down and rebooted. blink.gif Freaked me out. LOL...So I started the step again from the extract All part. I only needed to uncheck IAT/EAT because everything else was unchecked. It began it's scan but after it was done, the computer turned off again and rebooted so I wasn't able to save the data. sad.gif
