I recently downloaded a game off of limewire, madden 2006, which didnt even end up working. As a result, my task manager won't start. It won’t come up by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL, right clicking the taskbar, or using Start/run/taskmgr.exe. Also, everytime i close limewire it keeps restarting.
I have also been having trouble with pop ups lately... a lot of them. Prior i was used to next to none, except for the occasional, one every week pop up. now its once every two minutes! i've tried running ad aware and spybot S&D, but the same problems keep coming back... SurfAccuracy, IST.ISTbar, and YourSiteBar, All of these...
can anyone please help the newb to this forum? thnks!

Did you run your spyware programs in Safe Mode?
How to start Windows in Safe Mode

If that doesn't work, I suggest you post a HijackThis log for examination.

Read How to post a HijackThis Log.
Please read, and follow, all directions carefully.

Then, run a log, and post it in the HijackThis forum, at this link. Do not, fix anything, yet.
A member, of the HJT Team, will help you out.
It may take a while to get a response, because the HJT Team are very busy. Please, be patient, these people are volunteers. They will help you out, as soon as possible.

NOTE:
Once you have made the post, please, DO NOT make another post in the HJT forum, until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The first thing they look for, when looking for logs to reply to, is 0 replies. If you make another post, there will be 1 reply. The team member, glancing over the replies, might assume someone is already helping you out, and will not respond. So, just make your post, and let it sit there, until a team member responds. This way you will be taken care of, in the most timely manner.

After you follow all directions and get your system clean, I recommend this:

• CREATE EMERG COPIES OF CRITICAL XP SYSTEM UTILITIES [XP and 2003 Server only]

This VB 6 utility will create a usable backup copy of Taskmgr.exe, MSConfig.exe and Regedit.exe in a new folder called C:\EmergencyUtils. The new copies will be named Copy_of_Taskmgr.exe, Copy_of_MSConfig.exe and Copy_of_Regedit.com.

To use: Download the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and save it to your hard drive. Double-click the xp_emergencyutil.zip file and extract xp_emergencyutil.exe to your hard disk. To run the EXE just double click it, there is no installer. You will have the option of running the programs automatically, after the copies are created. You may need Administrator privileges to run this utility.

NOTE: Your antivirus software may warn of a potentially malicious script. This is normal, as the Windows Scripting Host is used to create the "copies" of these 3 utilities.
