email Removed to protect from spambots. ~ OB

Using IE 8 I was not able to run GMER. First time the system stopped-hard boot Second time blue screen PFN_LIST_CORRUPT-hard boot
Third time blue screen STOP 0X0000004E-hard boot. Then I used FireFox and had no problems. System seems to be under constant attack. Using Malwarebytes I have quarantine Stolen.data, malware.trace, and highjack.userinit. Backdoor.bot keeps coming back even though it has been quarantine. I have numerous problems with IE 8: it gets redirected. I also use Ad-Aware and it keeps having to block web sites : 78.47.248 and 64.201.60.106 both port 80.

OS:XP SP3
Mem 2048
IE veer 8.0.6006

Using PC-Cillin
Malwarebytes
Ad-Ware
SpyBot

I will also attach highthis1.log Since they are the people that referred me.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

In order for me to see the status of the infection I will need a new set of logs to start with.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

DeFogger:

  • Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Download DDS:

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

    Posted Image

    • Double-Click on dds.scr and a command window will appear. This is normal.
    • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

After running Defrogger & DDS and was getting ready to run RKUhooker and the
following message:
"Generic host process for win 32 encounter a problem and needs to close"
The pop up boc look like it was legit.I selectrf cancel and the system hung.
Hard rebot. Then I ran RKUhooker. Results attach as a zip file as also is
DDS.txt, Attach.txt and I also included hijackthisrck file.

Additionsall Problems since above:

Rogue Anti Virus 2010 malwarebyte quarantines but it comes back everytime the
system reboots. In add remove programs a program called Anti Virus 202 but it
can not be removed.

Bothe IE8 & Firefox when I oen and add a tab; tabes start adding faster than I
can delete them. I have to do a hard reboot. The tabs are blank as far as I
can tell. Several times when I open IE 8 it will start opening new browers
which I am able to delete and have only one window.

Greetings

One or more of the identified infections is Known as a Backdoor Trojan. - TDSS rootkit <--please read

What this virus does do.

Functionality
The functionality that the Trojan exhibits implies that it has been designed with profit-making as its primary objective. Making money from the Web typically involves generating Web traffic, installing pay-per-install software and also by generating sales leads for other Web sites and services of a dubious nature. It tries to achieve its objective by employing an array of techniques to try and make the user participate in these income-generating activities.

What the virus can do.

Backdoor.Tidserv is a Trojan horse that uses an advanced rootkit to hide itself. It also displays advertisements, redirects user search results, and opens a back door on the compromised computer.

This "could" allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can clean this machine but I cannot guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. "If you would like to continue, then follow the steps below, otherwise please let me know"

I Would like you to do the following.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

I finally got combofix to run. I had an indication that the master boot record was infected and rootkit activity;reboot. I rebooted and the blue screen came up add the error was stop:000000E2 I restarted and combofix continued to work. It rebooted and an another blue screen appeared code
stop:0x0000008E (0x80000004, 0x8805BC357,0x9BBE228,0x800000000)

The system loads faster as do the programs. I was able to update IE 8

I could not fine the combofix file. Should I run combofix again or search to the combofix logfile and an if so what would be the file name.

I ran combofix but had to do it several times. It took me awhile to figure out how to completly turn off my antiverus software. The process of running the combofix file the program indicated that the master boot record was infected and that I had rootkit activity. I rebooted as request but got a blue screen stop: 000000E2. Turned off the computer then back on comfix restarted. It then deleted several programs, drivers etc.. After the cleaning finished I could not locate a logfile. The compute is running faster and I was able to Update fothe firefox and IE8. Please let me know how to find the logfile or do I run combofix again.
